Durk Derrick Banks, better known by his stage name, Lil Durk, is an American singer, songwriter, and rapper.

He is best known as one of the artists who pushed drill music into the mainstream during the early twenty-teens drill wave.

Durk, along with similar artists, including Chief Keef, Young Chop, and Lil Reese popularized this sub-genre of trap music defined by its dark, violent, and nihilistic lyrical content.

Lil Durk’s career took off in 2012 with the release of “L’s Anthem” and he is the founder of the record label, Only The Family (OTF).

Which Lil Durk song is your favorite?

Like many drill artists, Durk’s childhood was as dark as the genre. Durk’s father was sentenced to life in prison when Durk was just a baby and he grew up in poverty in the South Side of Chicago.

When Durk became a father as a teenager, he dropped out of high school and joined the gang, Black Disciples.

Durk has had his share of tragedy as well. In 2014, Durk’s cousin and fellow rapper, McArthur “OTF Nunu” Swindle, was murdered.

Less than a year later, Durk’s manager was killed by gunfire. In 2020, Durk’s close friend, King Von, was also murdered. Durk has honored the loss of his friends in his album The Voice.
